pressconnects.com SUNDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2017 17A ENDWELL David Slater Lewis, 75, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at UMH James G. Johnston nursing home, after a lengthy battle with and Lewy Body Dementia. David was a devoted husband to Ellen Deuel Lewis for 31 years and a proud and supportive father to Darcie Lewis, Patricia Lewis, Kevin (Beth) Lewis, Nicole (Brian) Wagner and Jim Brownlow. He was Papa to Brendan and Nick Wagner, Ingrid Becker and will be Papa Angel to Baby Girl Lewis he get to meet. He was big brother to Donna Lewis Malarkey.

He is also sur- vived by brother-in-law Bob (Sarah) Deuel and sister-in-law Nancy English. He is predeceased by Don and Edith Lewis, Carlin and Doris Deuel, Jim Malarkey and Bob English. Dave was a 1961 graduate of Chenango Valley High School. During his youth he was an enthusiastic racer of twin engine go-carts and competed all over the Northeast. David was a career employee of IBM Endicott for 33 years.

After retiring, Dave enjoyed working at Polar Shot Driving Range and Home Depot and loved to get out that little white as often as he could. Dave was a kind and gentle soul with many interests and talents. Being a man of few words. when he did speak, you had better listen or you would miss out on something important or an example of his quirky sense of humor. Nothing was more enjoyable than seeing his mischievous grin spread across his face as he told a joke or story! His love of cars had him racing sports cars at Watkins Glen and in later years driving his corvette, Ruby.

Dave was also a talented stained glass artist, avid gardener, of RC airplanes, and lover of his canine companions through the years. The family wishes to thank the very special caregivers who enriched life: Michael Palmeri, Renee Connell, Char- lie Arbuiso, Renee Daily, and the exceptional staff of unit 2 at JGJ Nursing Home. Expressions of sympathy in his memory can be made to Office for the Aging, Yesteryears, or Vestal United Methodist Church memorial gifts. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 30 at 11 am at the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main Street, Vestal. The family will receive friends 10-11 am before the service.

at the age of 87, after suffering com- plications from open heart surgery. He was a resident of Venice, Fla. Albert was born July 13, 1930, in Staten Island, N.Y. to Albert E. and Helen (May) Ponterio.

He graduated from Wag- ner College in Staten Island, N.Y. with a Pre-Med degree and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. with an M.D. He was commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Army and served as a physician at Fort Hood, Texas.

He then moved his young family to Johnson City, N.Y., where he began a private medical career spanning several decades. During his medical career he also worked as a phy- sician for Endicott-Johnson Shoes, GAF and IBM. He was a highly respected physician, specializing in internal medicine and endocrinology. He was an avid golfer his entire adult life. Albert is survived by his first wife, Marie C.

(Rizzo) Ponterio; his five children Albert A. (Di- ana) Ponterio; Susan (Daniel) Neely; Mary Ellen Ponterio; Ann (William) McCullen; James J. (Sissy) Ponterio; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren his sister and brother-in-law Helen (Mucio) Valenca: and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-daughter Kelly (Peter) Epstein; two step-granddaughters and step-son Nicholas Zopp. He was preceded in death by his second wife Jaqueline Novitske-Ponterio; his parents Albert and Helen Ponterio; his brothers Robert and Louis Ponterio; his granddaughter Sarah Ponterio; and his step-son James Zopp.

Ponterio ENDICOTT Gretchen Gross Schnurbusch, 86, of Endicott died on De- cember 19, 2017 at her home. She was prede- ceased by her husbands Joseph Gross and Rich- ard Schnurbusch, grand- son Lt Joshua Gross USN. She is survived by her sons and daughters in law Walter and Karen Gross, Matthew Gross, Norman Gross, Mike and Nancy Schnurbusch, Rick and Rick Schnurbusch; daughter and son in law Sarah and Robert Free- man; brothers and sisters in law Bourke and Shirley Lodewyk, Bruce and Peggy Lodewyk; grandchil- dren Lt Cmdr Nathaniel Gross, Benjamin Gross, Rebecca Gross, Elizabeth Gross, Janine Freeman, Pamela Freeman, Michael T. Schnurbusch, Brian Schnurbusch; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gretchen graduated from BCC and Binghamton University as an adult.

She loved to travel including two trips to Europe in her She loved going wilderness camping to Lake George and trying new experiences as long as she was physically able. She always had the ability to fit in with people of any age. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday December 27 at 11am at the Northminster Presbyterian Church 711 Farm to Market Road Endwell. The Rev Patricia Raube and Rev. James Martin will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 4-6pm at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc. 428 Main Street Johnson City. Father of Lisa Weyant and husband Robert, grandfather of Rachel; also survived by niece Sally Hutchison and nephew Paul Hutchison (Jackie), several cousins and many devoted friends passed away on December 18, 2017. He graduated from Johnson City Schools Syracuse University, then taught English at Susquehanna Valley for 25 years. He was a long-time member of Conklin Presbyterian Church and served on the Healing Prayer Group and various church and community committees. Bowdish JOHNSON CITY Sarah Alexis Maliwacki, 23, of Johnson City, lost her battle with addic- tion on December 18, 2017. She is survived by her parents, Robert P. Maliwacki and Frances Vanaderseck; brother, Christopher and his wife, Erin; siblings: Tyler, Ryan and Kier- sten. Also by her grand- parents, Jon and Irene Miller; great niece, Mak- enna; and great nephew, Noah. Sarah also leaves behind many family members and friends who love her dearly.

Sarah Alexis Maliwacki John Talcott passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at Wilson Medical Center in John- son City on December 19, 2017 at the age of 61. John is survived by his mother Elizabeth Ludwig; uncle George Gabana; brother Tracey Talcott; three daughters Alecia (Josh) Furney, Patricia (Michael) Rathburn and Jordan (Ma- son) Singer; son John (Chelsea) Talcott; and eight beautiful grandchildren.

On behalf of John, the family would like to express a special thank you to close friend Gary LaTorrey whose love and support was greatly appreciated through the years. A me- morial mass is scheduled for 10AM on Thursday, December 28th at St. Church, 148 Clinton St. Binghamton, with an off site reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate life.
