Apalachin A new $450,000 Catholic church being constructed along Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin is scheduled for completion by early November. The Rev.

Valentine Jankowiak, pastor of St. Margaret Mary Church in Apalachin, said the final flooring of the church has been completed and the contractor is now working on interior decorating. The church and adjoining buildings are being constructed on a nii-acre plot on the west side of Pennsylvania Avenue on southerly outskirts of Apalachin. THE BUILDING program includes the construction of a new church, a rectory and various offices. A church hall is expected to be built later.

The new church itself will be hexagon-shaped and constructed of masonry material and cedar. The church will have a seating capacity of 600. Parking facilities will be available in front of the church. General contractor for the project is Burton-Markoff Construction Co. of Binghamton.

WORK ON THE project was started last spring. Because of the approach of winter, dedication ceremoncis for the new facilities are expected to be delayed until spring. The present St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church is located in New Street. It has a seating capacity of about 140.

The building program was undertaken to meet increased church attendance. Church officials said the present facilities are expected to be used for religious instruction and eventually may be sold. The trial of Harold Romeo, 23, opened Tuesday before Tioga County Judge George Boldman of Owego. Mr. Romeo was tried on a t.k '-'Ml charge stemming from the al leged theft of an auto in Apala chin on March 22.
