INDIVIDUAL BATTING INDIVIDUAL BATTING Player-Club AB 1 HK HBI Pet Player-Club AB 340 64 87 118 27 WU'ma, Boston 347 run single by Del Ennls In the eighth inning to sew up his twenty first victory. Johnny Antonelll was the loser. The Dodgers played one of their worst games of the season against the Pirates, committing five errors and garnering only five hits off veteran Max Surkont, Billy Loes gave up four Pittsburgh runs In the opening inning and then was yanked In the second, when the Pirates pushed across two more. The Milwaukee Braves recovered from Thursday's double setback at New York by edging the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-4, on a fifth-inning single by Danny O'Connell.

The nevers-say-die Braves now rest games back of the Giants wth nine games remaining on their schedule. In other American League night games, Dean Stone of the Washington Senators turned in 3-hit, 8-0 shutout over the Boston Red Sox, 5-1, behind Bob Turley's 5-hitter. Third baseman Eddie Yost of the Senators was beaned by Boston's Russ Kemmerer at Washington, but suffered only a mild concussion. He is expected to make a "token appearance" In tonight's game against the Red Sox in order to maintain his consecutive game streak, which now stands at 804. Tigers' mound ace, Steve Cromek, who has a 17-15 mark this season.

The Tigers put up a strong fight last night, tying the Indians at 2-all in the sixth Inning, but Avila then unloaded his base-clearing blow In the seventh to wrap up Lemon's twenty third victory. Al Rosen also homered off loser Ned Carver in the first Inning. The Yankees, meanwhile, postponed their "death" at least another day by whipping the Philadelphia Athletics, 10-3. Southpaw Tommy Byrne, recently brought back from the Pacific Coat League, scattered eight hits in posting his second victory In three starts. Always a good hitter, comeback Tommy also chipped ill with two doubles and a single.

In the National League pennant race, the New York Giants dropped a 4-3 decision to Robin Roberts and the Philadelphia Phillies but maintained their 4 4 game margin as the Pittsburgh Pirates whipped the second-place Brooklyn Dodgers, 9-1. The Giants' magic number now stands at 4. Roberts held the Giants to seven hits, but needed a two- Burgesi, Phil. By the United Presi Big Early Wynn can serve as the "handsome waiter" to a wing-ding Cleveland Indian victory celebration today when he goes after his twenty second victory of the season against the Detroit Tigers. Wynn's pitching 'sidekick, Bob Lemon, gained the Indians at least a tie for the American League pennant last night when he beat the Tigers, 6-3, at Detroit with the help of a grand-slam homer by Bobby Avila.

Tha victory the Indians' 106h of he campaign enabled the Cleveland officials to start their champagne-chilling operations, for it left the league-leaders 8 games ahead of the second-place New York Yankees with only eight games remaining. Thus, a Cleveland victory andor a New York defeat today will signal a new league champion and the official end of the Yankees' five-year title reign. Wynn has split four decisions against Detroit this year but has a liftetime re-cord of 24 victories and 17 defeats versus the al 338 331 14) Avila, Cl'v'and 826 104 178 13 Skowron, N.
