4B Press Sun-Bulletin COMMUNITY Friday, June 9, 2000 Delaware Co. to have festive weekend Three communities to hold festivals BY LINDA JUMP Staff Writer MEREDITH Delaware County communities will celebrate festivals and events this weekend, including the second Meredith Dairy Fest, Sidney Hometown Day and the Arkville Community Fair. Parades will be held Saturday in Sidney and Arkville. Also on Saturday, the first of five mock train robberies on the Delaware Ulster Rail Ride in Arkville will take place. Trains leave the Arkville station at 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Those who pay admission to the Arkville Community Fair can ride the train for half price on Saturday. MEREDITH The Meredith Dairy Fest last year drew about 5,000 to its first event, and organizers are hoping to attract twice as many people this weekend, said Lynn Hoppe of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 9 a.m., at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Binghamton and 9:30 a.m., at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 58 Baxter Binghamton, with The Very Rev. The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner at 6 p.m. at the Elks Club on River Street. The Citizen of the Year award will go to John Woodyshek, the Village of Sidney engineer.

Roland E. Buck, 92, of Starrucca, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2000, after an illness. Roland was born August 23, 1905, in Starrucca, the son of the late, Irving and Maggie (Wagner) Buck. He was predeceased wife, Reva, in 1980. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Joyce and Don Walker, Vestal.

N.Y.. Helen and Bob Stone, Pitman, N.J., Frank and Kathy Buck, Starrucca, Ruth E. and Ray Stone, Hallstead, Alice and Kirk Rhone (where Roland made his home), Starrucca, Robert and Lillian Buck, Starrucca; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a niece, two nephews and several cousins. Roland was a charter member of the Starrucca Baptist Church, an honorary member of the Thompson Hose Company, past Director of the Susquehanna Community School Board and a member of the Board of the Barnes Kasson County Hospital. He was a respected dairy farmer and dedicated his life to working the family farm and to being a care-giver to his own and extended families.

Louise was a registered nurse for 40 years retiring in 1983. She moved to Binghamton from New York City in 1998.
